Article: Maison James Was Always There

Maison James Was Always There
I think, in some ways, Maison James has been with me for most of my life. I just didn’t know what to call it yet.
From a very young age, I fell in love with beautiful things.
Not because they were expensive. Not because of a name on a box. But because of the way they made me feel.
I noticed things.
The way a room smelled. The weight of something in my hand. Beautiful packaging. The way a ribbon was tied. The feeling of being somewhere that had considered every single detail.
I still remember walking into my first luxury store.
I remember the smell before almost anything else.
I remember touching things I had only ever seen from a distance. I remember the service and the feeling that, for those few moments, nothing was being rushed.
And I remember making my first purchase.
Watching it being carefully wrapped felt almost as special as what I had bought. The tissue. The box. The ribbon. The bag.
Every detail seemed to say: this moment matters.
I walked out of that store feeling different.
And I’ve carried that feeling with me ever since.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that what stayed with me wasn’t the purchase.
It was the memory.
It was who I was at that moment in my life. How hard I had worked to be able to buy something beautiful for myself. The excitement of carrying that bag home. The pride. The possibility.
That object became attached to a version of me.
And I think that’s what I’ve been chasing all these years.
For those of you who have known me for a long time, you know this has always been part of who I am.
I’ve always cared about the details other people might overlook. I’ve always wanted things to feel special. I’ve always believed there is something beautiful about turning an ordinary moment into a ritual.
And for those of you who are just discovering me, Maison James may be the first piece of my story you know.
But it is far from the beginning.
My life has been built around making people feel something.
For years, I’ve had the privilege of being part of people’s lives through beauty, standing behind the chair, listening to their stories, watching them move through new jobs, relationships, heartbreaks, weddings, babies, reinventions and entirely new chapters of themselves.
And somewhere along the way, I realized how much of life happens in these seemingly ordinary moments.
Getting ready in the morning.
Packing for a trip.
Opening your suitcase in a hotel room somewhere you’ve never been.
Looking in the mirror before walking out the door.
These moments may seem small.
But our lives are made of them.
Maison James was created to make those moments feel a little more beautiful.
It was created from my belief that life is about the little luxuries, not necessarily the extravagant ones, but the deeply personal ones.
The things you reach for every day.
The things that travel with you.
The things that eventually carry your initials, your scratches, your stories and your memories.
I wanted to create objects that become part of your life rather than simply things you own.
And I wanted the experience of receiving them to matter too.
I want you to notice the packaging.
I want you to untie the ribbon instead of tearing through it.
I want you to run your hand over your initials.
I want opening a Maison James box to give you even a fraction of the feeling I had all those years ago opening something beautiful for the very first time.
Because I never forgot that feeling.
And maybe that’s the real reason I created Maison James.
I wanted to give it to someone else.
Maybe you’ll carry one of our pieces on the trip where you fall in love.
Maybe it will sit on the vanity in your first home.
Maybe you’ll reach for it while getting ready for a day that changes your life without knowing it yet.
Or maybe it simply makes an ordinary morning feel a little less ordinary.
Years from now, I hope you look at it and remember who you were when it became yours.
Because eventually, the things we love stop being just things.
They become reminders.
Of places.
Of people.
Of who we were.
Of who we were becoming.
Maison James is deeply personal to me because it carries so many pieces of the person I’ve always been, the life I’ve lived, and the world I’ve always dreamed of creating.
And now, for the first time, I get to share that world with you.
Whether you’ve known me for years or you’re only just finding Maison James today,
welcome.
I hope something here makes you feel the way beautiful things have made me feel my entire life.
Because you may forget the box.
You may forget the ribbon.
You may even forget the day it arrived.
But if I’ve done this right,
you’ll remember the feeling.
